Parnngurr rangers take part in firearms training
The Parnngurr rangers were enthusiastically involved in the firearms training which was undertaken over three days in late September.
The first day was theory delivered at the ranger station before going out to choose a safe dune to use as a backdrop for the targets. The targets were set up for the next morning and 25m, 50m and 75m markers were placed.
The second day also began at the ranger station learning cleaning techniques and safe handling of rifles and doing the theoretical test. The afternoon was spent on the range where everyone attending had practice at shooting the targets at 25m and 50m.
The targets were inspected after each round to check the grouping of the shots taken — this information was then used to adjust the rifle’s scope in the appropriate direction in order to increase the accuracy of the shots fired.
The last day was spent on country with more firearms target shooting. It was a fantastic course and the rangers enjoyed up-skilling in firearms.
