Mr Muuki Taylor OAM

For service to the Indigenous communities of the Western Desert.

A highly respected cultural leader and internationally recognised artist, Mr Taylor has spent his life capturing the landscapes and essence of his Martu homelands.

He spent many of his younger years walking the vast landscape of the Great Sandy and Western Deserts with his family and his art has become an encyclopaedic visualisation of much of the desert regions of WA.

A senior Martu leader he has dedicated much of his life to mentoring young Aboriginal people and was a co-founder in 2005 of Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa, and remains their Patron and Senior Cultural Advisor today.

Recognised for transforming lives in WA’s remote western desert he works tirelessly to support and guide the next generation of Martu people and runs a series of programs including ranger teams to protect Martu Country and preserve cultural knowledge.
