Teaming up with the Swan Coastal District firies

In October, four rangers travelled south to work alongside the Department of Biodiversity and Conservation fire crews of the Swan Coastal District.

Building on a similar trip last year, it was a unique opportunity for cultural and professional exchange between rangers and the fire crews, with the rangers gaining valuable experience in a very different environment.

After being Welcomed to Country by Noongar Traditional Owners, the rangers went on a cave tour at Yanchep National Park before heading out to the fire ground.

The combined team carried out prescribed burns in thick banksia scrubland north of Perth and the rangers worked on the fire trucks alongside the crew.

Using the water cannons was a highlight however the ticks that infest the bush definitely wasn’t! The rangers are forming firm friendships with the crew members and everyone is keen for a trip next year.
