Martu women hope for more people to return to country

Alcohol-fueled violence is the number one issue of concern to elder Martu women of the East Pilbara.

They believe withth more housing options, people could return to dry communities on country to be safe in places like Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawaritji on the edge of the western desert.

The elders worked with police, KJ rangers and local governments to demonstrate the cost-benefit to the community of people being housed in dry communities where cultural protocols are observed and two-way learning means kids grow up knowing their language and culture as well as English.
